According to weather forecasters, the average nighttime temperature in Moscow will be between -21 and -19 degrees Celsius, but in some places in the Moscow region it will reach -27 degrees Celsius.
The Hydrometeorological Center's forecast also specifies that cloudy weather with clearings and no precipitation, but with icy conditions, is expected in the Moscow region on January 18.

Earlier, Roman Vilfand, scientific director of the Russian Hydrometeorological Center, also reported that severe frosts down to -50 degrees Celsius (-50 degrees Fahrenheit) are expected in the Urals and Siberia. The significant drop in temperature is due to the arrival of the East Siberian anticyclone, he explained. According to the forecaster, abnormally cold weather, down to -40 degrees Celsius (-40 degrees Fahrenheit), will be experienced in the Sverdlovsk, Chelyabinsk, and Kurgan regions, as well as in the southern Tyumen region.
In the northern Urals, temperatures will drop to -39 degrees Celsius (-39 degrees Fahrenheit). In Siberia, cold weather down to -40 to -45 degrees Celsius (-40 to -45 degrees Fahrenheit) is forecast for the Omsk, Tomsk, Kemerovo, and Irkutsk regions, the Altai Territory, and the Altai Republic.
