The past year has seen fighting rage on in many wars around the globe. U.S. President Donald Trump has put himself centre stage in many trouble spots. He has brought fresh energy to peacemaking, after years in which diplomatic efforts to end conflicts had been flailing.
But Trump has not calmed global turmoil – in many cases, he has made it worse. His deals have brought respite to some battlefields but no lasting peace. Meanwhile, his lawlessness and spheres-of-influence risk giving licence to other states tempted by adventurism.
