[Regnum] Frosts will return to Moscow next week, with temperatures potentially dropping to minus 20 degrees Celsius. This was reported by Yevgeny Tishkovets, a leading specialist at the Phobos weather center.
"Starting Tuesday, the weather will begin to cool again, and by midweek, daytime temperatures will drop to minus 10 to minus 15 degrees, with scorching minus 20 degrees Celsius temperatures hitting at night," Tishkovets explained in an interview with RIA Novosti.
The weather forecaster noted that on Monday, after the passage of a warm snow front, temperatures in the capital will rise to minus four to plus one degree.
According to the Russian Hydrometeorological Center, strong northeasterly winds with gusts up to 18 m/s are forecast for January 9. Daytime temperatures in Moscow will be -10 to -12 degrees Celsius, while in the Moscow region, nighttime temperatures will be -10 to -15 degrees Celsius. Wet snow is possible on power lines and trees, and snowdrifts and icy roads are possible.
Earlier, Tishkovets reported that the night of January 1-2 in Central Russia was the coldest since the start of the calendar winter. In the Moscow region, the most severe frosts were recorded in Volokolamsk, where the temperature dropped to -18.6 degrees Celsius, and in Serebryanye Prudy, to -18.4 degrees Celsius. In Cherusti and Zaraysk, the temperature dropped to -17.6 degrees Celsius, in Novo-Ierusalim to -17.5 degrees Celsius, and in Kolomna to -17.1 degrees Celsius.

Heavy snowfall and winds are forecast for Moscow in the next few days, the Moscow City Services Complex reported on January 7.
"According to weather forecasters, the weather will deteriorate sharply tomorrow, January 8, in the afternoon. Heavy snowfall will begin in the evening, lasting until the morning of January 10, accompanied by wind gusts of up to 18 m/s. The snowfall will increase by over 30 centimeters over two days," the complex's Telegram channel clarified.
They added that the heaviest snowfall is expected overnight and during the day of January 9. Due to worsening weather conditions, city services are working in an enhanced mode.
It is noted that continuous mechanized sweeping and anti-icing treatment of the roadway and sidewalks will be carried out every few hours.
The department added that emergency services are on duty around the clock.
"They are ready to respond quickly to damage to power lines, fallen trees, and other weather-related incidents," said Moscow Deputy Mayor Pyotr Biryukov.
