Text: Dueling Narratives in Kordofan Following developments in Yemen, Saudi Arabia appears to be increasing its engagement in Sudan. A senior Saudi official told Basha Report that the Kingdom intends to increase support for Sudan’s internationally recognized government, signaling a broader regional push by Riyadh. Meanwhile, conflicting accounts continue to emerge from Sudan’s Kordofan region as fighting intensifies and territorial control remains contested. Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF)–aligned narratives, supported by military-released videos, claim continued advances in North Kordofan and parts of South Kordofan. SAF statements assert that Rapid Support Forces (RSF) units—along with allied foreign fighters, including mercenaries from Colombia, Chad, and South Sudan allegedly backed by the United Arab Emirates—are retreating under sustained pressure. According to these accounts, SAF has targeted RSF positions using drones and conducted daily clearing operations across multiple fronts, supported by fixed-wing aircraft and one-way unmanned aerial vehicles. SAF statements further claim that government forces have repelled failed attacks by RSF units and forces affiliated with the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement–North (SPLM-N), al-Hilu faction, along key routes, including the El Obeid–Dilling–Kadugli axis. These operations are described as ongoing despite what SAF characterizes as an RSF-imposed siege of El Obeid and Kadugli.
