[Regnum] A magnitude 4.1 earthquake struck the mountains of Sochi, the European Seismological Center reported on January 4.
Seismologists recorded the tremors at 12:47 PM Moscow time. The earthquake's epicenter was located at a depth of approximately 10 km—39 km northwest of Sochi and 9 km southeast of Lazarevskoye.
According to the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the epicenter was located in the Black Sea, approximately 5 km off the coast of Sochi. According to the resort's mayor, Andrei Proshunin, the intensity of the tremors in the Lazarevsky district reached magnitude 4, and in the Central district, magnitude 3. The tremors were felt by residents of Magri, Lazarevskoye, and Loo.
“There were no casualties or damage to infrastructure,” the city’s mayor reported.
On December 6, a magnitude 4.1 earthquake also struck Sochi. The epicenter was located at a depth of approximately 10 km, approximately 49 km northwest of central Sochi and 8 km northeast of Lazarevskoye. The seismic event was recorded at 1:13 PM Moscow time. There were no reports of injuries or damage.
In January 2024, a magnitude 3.5 earthquake was recorded in Sochi at a depth of approximately 5 km, followed by a subsequent seismic event at the same location that evening. The Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that no residents had called for help, and no damage or casualties were reported.
