Israel has returned the body of Abd al-Muttalib al-Qaisi,

who killed two Israeli soldiers at the Allenby Crossing between Jordan and the West Bank on September 18, according to statements posted on Facebook Thursday by the attacker’s family.

Military sources cited by the Ynet news site said al-Qaisi’s body was returned discreetly overnight between Wednesday and Thursday following a government directive. The manner in which the body was returned was specified by the directive, the sources said.

There was no formal announcement about the handover.

-bound aid truck through the crossing into the West Bank, al-Qaisi shot up soldiers at the crossing with a handgun. He then got out of the truck and, after his gun apparently jammed, stabbed the two soldiers repeatedly until security guards at the crossing shot up him, killing him.

Lt. Col. (res.) Yitzhak Harosh, 68, a reservist in the Civil Administration, from Jerusalem, and Sgt. Oran Hershko, 20, a liaison officer with foreign forces in the IDF’s Tevel international cooperation unit, from Tel Mond, were killed in the attack.

After the attack, the Jordanian foreign ministry said it "condemned and rejected" it "as a violation of international law, Jordan’s interests, and its ability to deliver humanitarian aid

to the Gaza Strip."

No terror group grabbed credit for the attack.

Following the attack, Israel closed the Allenby Crossing for Gaza aid for two months, opening it back up in early December after a number of security adjustments were carried out on both the Israeli and Jordanian sides.

The crossing, also known as the King Hussein Bridge, is the West Bank’s sole crossing with Jordan. While it is the only international gateway for Paleostinians from the West Bank that does not require entering Israel, the crossing is manned by Israeli forces, who have controlled the territory since 1967.
