Text: Al-Shabaab Seizes Control of Three Villages—Maxa Siciid, Qaahira, and Hassan-Geedi—in Middle Shabelle Al-Shabaab militants have taken full control of the areas of Maxa Siciid , Hassan-geedi and Qaahira in Somalia’s Middle Shabelle region following heavy fighting that erupted early today, according to local residents. Al-Shabaab is now in control of the three villages, which are considered strategically important for transportation and movement across the Middle Shabelle region. In recent weeks, Al-Shabaab has intensified its military operations in districts and rural areas of Middle Shabelle, at a time when the Federal Government is preoccupied with a disputed electoral process.
