| More than 3 million Sudanese from Central Sudan and Khartoum have returned to their homes |

Text: The latest IOM figures show that by October this year more than 3 million Sudanese from Central Sudan and Khartoum have returned to their homes since the RSF militia was expelled from these regions. That’s roughly 50% of the total displaced population with literally thousands more continuing to return home on a daily basis; possibly bringing an end to the displacement crisis in these regions by August next year. Meanwhile in (largely) RSF controlled Darfur the number of displaced people continues to rise to the point now that almost 2/3 of those displaced in Sudan are from Darfur alone. The long absence of fighting between Army and RSF within states like Central and West Darfur (a de facto ceasefire) has done nothing to encourage a return of the millions of displaced non Arab Darfuris to their homes. International policy on Sudan must realise that before anything civilians are fleeing the RSF militia; an end to fighting In a region that results in RSF control turbo charges displacement to exponentially more than had fled during the fighting period meanwhile an end to fighting that results in Army/Gov control leads those who originally fled the fighting to return home. Any solution to the displacement crisis in Sudan (and the Sudan crisis in general) must recognise that there can be no humane solution that involves or preserves this genocidal RSF militia. |
