Text: A joint investigation by The Washington Post and PBS Frontline has disclosed further details of a long running Israeli covert campaign aimed at crippling Iran’s nuclear program during the June 2025 war, including the use of specialized weapons and a broad internal agent network. According to the report, Israeli intelligence concluded years earlier that repeated strikes on nuclear facilities such as Natanz and Fordow would only cause temporary disruption. Facilities could be rebuilt, but senior scientific expertise could not. Israeli agencies therefore focused on eliminating the small circle of scientists who designed, supervised, and advanced Iran’s enrichment and weaponization work. Investigators say Israeli services spent decades compiling detailed intelligence files on roughly 100 Iranian nuclear scientists, tracking daily routines, residences, travel patterns, and security arrangements. That list was eventually narrowed to 12 senior figures viewed as critical to the program’s continuity. The report describes how, as Israeli airstrikes began on June 13, more than 100 Israeli linked operatives inside Iran were activated in parallel. These operatives were positioned near key targets and infrastructure and were equipped with what the investigation calls specialized weapons, including compact explosives, precision devices, and other tools designed for close range assassinations that minimized detection and collateral exposure.
