Text: #UPDATE: A mortar attack targeted the Hiilweyne Military Training Camp on the outskirts of Mogadishu earlier this morning Al-Shabaab militants took advantage of internal fighting among government forces to launch a mortar attack on the Hiilweyne Military Training Camp on the outskirts of Mogadishu early this morning. The incident followed an armed clash between camp security guards and soldiers undergoing training at the facility, which left at least four soldiers injured. According to reports, the Commander of the Somali National Army and the Commander of the Presidential Guard arrived at the camp to assess the situation and held meetings with senior officers from the training school and the camp’s security unit. Sources close to the scene confirmed that as the two commanders were present at the camp, Al-Shabaab fired two mortar shells into the military compound. The mortars landed inside the parade ground but caused no casualties or material damage. |
