Text: #ALERT: Al-Shabab militants captured a village close to Nuur-Dugle, local residents say. Heavy fighting has been reported in Somalia’s Middle Shabelle region after Al-Shabab militants captured a village close to Nuur-Dugle, local residents say. The clashes erupted earlier on Friday between the militant group and Macawiisley.
In response, Somali National Army units, backed by Macawiisley fighters, have begun deploying around Nuur-Dugle. Sources on the ground say there is now a significant military build-up aimed at preventing further advances by the militants. Nuur-Dugle is regarded as a strategically important location controlling movement along the main coastal route linking Mogadishu with parts of Middle Shabelle and neighbouring Galgaduud.
