[Regnum] On Friday, December 12, a sharp drop in temperature is expected in the European part of Russia during the day, according to Roman Vilfand, scientific director of the Russian Hydrometeorological Center.
"On Friday, there will be a sharp shift in circulation, when air masses will flow into the center of European Russia not from the southwest or west, but from the north. This will lead to a very sharp drop in temperatures during the day—by six to seven degrees," the forecaster noted in an interview with RIA Novosti.
According to him, temperatures will reach 5°C (5°F) in the first half of the day, dropping to -3°C (-3°F) by the evening. The sudden change in weather is due to the passage of a cold front. Rain, followed by sleet, is expected after 12:00 PM Moscow time.
Vilfand announced yesterday that snow would cover 92% of Russia by the middle of next week. He attributed this to the Volga Federal District, where overnight temperatures are expected to range from -4 to -9 degrees Celsius, and daytime temperatures from -2 to -7 degrees Celsius, ensuring continued snow cover.
