[Regnum] Moderate and strong magnetic storms will hit Earth in the coming days. This was reported on December 7 by the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the Space Research Institute (IKI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
"Strong magnetic storms with a high probability of polar auroras are predicted for December 9-10," the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IKI RAS) said on its Telegram channel.
Scientists warned that magnetic storms of G2–G3 magnitude are expected on Tuesday and Wednesday, potentially affecting satellites and communications systems. They were caused by a plasma ejection following an M8.1 solar flare last night. Experts explained that the flare was moderate, but since its center was pointed directly toward Earth, the impact on the planet would be nearly frontal, amplifying the effect.
The last similar storm was observed on November 12-13, when it reached G4 intensity. A storm is now forecast approaching the maximum G3 intensity. The peak of magnetic disturbances is expected on December 9 in the afternoon, and the storms themselves may continue until Thursday.
