This was reported on November 30 by the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Solar Terrestrial Physics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
According to scientists, the sunspot group currently covers an area of ​​800 units. The largest sunspot group is region 4079, which at its peak covered an area of ​​1,200 units. Region 4274 is in second place. It hosted the two largest flares of the year in early November, covering an area of ​​1,100 units.
"The area of ​​active regions correlates quite precisely with their flare activity. The most powerful flares in history, at least in the observable historical period, have occurred exclusively in large active centers," the report clarifies.
On November 29, scientists detected five solar flares of the penultimate power class (M). All flares occurred in the region 4294 and were recorded in X-rays.
Earlier, specialists from the Solar Astronomy Laboratory at the Space Research Institute (IKI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences reported three powerful solar flares that occurred on the night of November 29. The scientists noted that the flares themselves were not unexpected, but what was noteworthy was that the Sun only reached this level more than 12 hours after the initial increase in activity.
