The rampage left several people with serious injuries, including skull fractures. The unnamed minor, one of four suspects nabbed, is charged in the Central District Juvenile Court with arson, aggravated sabotage, malicious damage, and intentional sabotage of a vehicle. Prosecutors request he remain in detention until the end of legal proceedings. The teenager, alongside dozens of others equipped with combustible materials, clubs and stones, came to a logistics center near the village of Beit Lid and broke into the premises after trying to smash the security camera at the entrance, according to today’s indictment. Employees were forced to hide in the building, as the enraged mob set fire to vehicles parked in a nearby lot. The settlers attempted to break into the building itself, but the workers managed to barricade the door. The mob moved onto two other locations in the area, setting fire to trucks, vehicles, a water tank and other buildings. They continued to cause damage to property and attacked Palestinians with clubs and stones, then fled the scene, prosecutors say. The suspect was detained by IDF troops alongside two others shortly after the attack. The soldiers handcuffed the three and loaded them into a military vehicle, but came under attack by rioting settlers, who managed to free two of the suspects. The defendant also attempted to escape and managed to tear the zip ties he was cuffed with, but soldiers kept him from fleeing, prosecutors write. He is the first person to be charged in connection to the rampage earlier this month. Recent months have seen a dramatic increase in settler violence, with Israeli authorities only recently vowing to crackdown. |
