[RIA] Iran needs to move its capital from Tehran, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated at a public meeting in Qazvin Province, IRNA reports.
"Today's reality is that we no longer have a choice; moving the capital is a necessity," he said.
The reason for this, according to the head of state, is significant problems with the water supply, which, coupled with the growing urban population, could create a humanitarian catastrophe.
In March, Iranian authorities faced a serious water crisis in four provinces at once – Khorasan Razavi, Yazd, Isfahan and Tehran – caused by long years of drought in these areas.
The main problem facing the Iranian government in these regions is the drying up of rivers, marshes and reservoirs and the declining efficiency of dams.
