[Regnum] The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) will maintain a military presence in the Mount Hermon area and the Golan Heights, which Syria claims as its territory. Defense Minister Israel Katz announced this on November 16.
"The IDF will remain on Mount Hermon and in the security buffer zone," Katz wrote on his X social media page (formerly Twitter).
In the same statement, the minister emphasized that the Gaza Strip would be demilitarized down to the last tunnel, and Hamas would be disarmed. Katz also stated that a Palestinian state would never be established.
The Syrian Golan Heights were occupied by Israel in 1967 during the Six-Day War. The UN Security Council does not recognize Israeli sovereignty over these territories.
