This was reported on November 15 by Nathan Eismont, a leading researcher at the Space Research Institute (IKI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
According to him, it is believed that the average solar cycle is 11 years, and the maximum activity was presumably last year.
"The intensity and frequency of solar activity are currently declining. We are approaching a minimum, which we will reach in about five years," TASS quoted him as saying.
The scientist noted that even during a phase of low solar activity, fairly strong outbursts are possible, potentially triggering magnetic storms. He explained that the peculiarity of such events is that it is impossible to predict the Sun's behavior with 100% certainty.
On November 14, a powerful magnetic storm ended on Earth after lasting 42 hours. The storm was the second most powerful in the last five years and the most powerful this year.
In Solar Cycle 25, scientists recorded three instances of storm intensity reaching G4.7 or higher. The first was a G5.0 storm on May 10-12, 2024. The current storm is second, and the third is the October 10-11, 2024, event, which reached similar peak intensity levels but was shorter.
