[Regnum] The coming winter in Russia should be colder than it was in 2024–2025, but air temperatures during this period will still be above normal. Roman Vilfand, scientific director of the Russian Hydrometeorological Center, announced this on Friday, November 14.
According to the weather forecaster, the coming winter will most likely not be cold, with air temperatures around and above normal.
"If we compare—usually with the previous winter of 2024-2025—this winter is noticeably colder than last year. Last year, if you remember, was a very warm winter," he told RIA Novosti.
Vilfand clarified that increased thaws are predicted for the coming winter, but periods with temperatures dropping to -20 degrees Celsius and below are also expected. He added that the likelihood of this scenario is 65-68%.
The day before, Vilfand reported that approximately 80% of Russia's territory, including the Far Eastern Federal District and Siberia, was already covered in snow. The forecaster clarified that snow had already settled in the Ural and Northwestern Federal Districts, as well as some regions of the Volga Federal District.
