| [Daily Mail, where America gets its news] New dashcam footage showed the key moment UPS Flight 2976 went down without an engine before crashing in a horrific inferno, killing at least 12 people in Kentucky. Driver Rasim Hadžić had just left the UPS yard and was heading down the road when his dashcam caught Flight 2976 crash into several buildings and burst into a gigantic fireball. 'He said he was shocked and saw the plane so low and catching wiring and immediately stopped and saw people running,' his daughter, Anela Hadžić's, told the Daily Mail. '[My father] was down there as we have a trucking company and he was in the yard earlier working on trailers and ended up leaving and catching that on his dashcam!' Rasim owns Balkan-Mar Express, a trucking company. He often works on trailers at the UPS facility, his daughter said. His dashcam caught the moment the plane exploded into a massive fireball, sending dark plumes of thick smoke into the sky. Nearby residents started running for their lives as Hadžić's pulled into a nearby parking lot. The Boeing MD-11 plane, which had three souls on board, exploded shortly after departing from Kentucky's Muhammad Ali International Airport in Louisville on Tuesday evening, taking the lives of at least 12 people. Rasim said all the UPS drivers have been accounted for, his daughter told the Daily Mail. Mayor Craig Greenberg said officials believe they have found the bodies of the three UPS workers, but none of the victims' identities have been released. One victim is believed to be a child. Governor Andy Beshear said the child who died was with a parent at the auto parts business. Nine people are still missing and five have been found overnight. Greenberg said officials said they have 'maybe' located all of the victims. 'If there are families still out there still wondering if someone is missing, please call immediately,' he urged at a press conference on Thursday. 'Our hope is that we have located all the victims at this point, but we don't know. 'You think you only see this in the movies, this was worst than the movies,' Greenberg said of the crash site. The flight, which was destined for Hawaii, had been cleared for takeoff and had cleared the airport's fence. 'Shortly after clearing that fence, it made impact with structures and the terrain off of the airport property,' the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) said. A post-impact fire ensued, which covers approximately almost a half of a mile.' Authorities have already determined that one of the plane's three engines detached from its left wing as the wide-body jet was rolling down the runway. It struck two local businesses - Kentucky Petroleum Recycling and Grade A Autoparts, which Beshear said accounted for all of its employees except for two, who were found later on. Four of the people killed were on the ground, Louisville Fire Chief Brian O'Neill said. It is unclear whether the additional fatalities were members of the crew or people on the ground. The plane's black box has been recovered by NTSB, and information is expected to be able to be extracted, despite the heat damage. It remains unclear what may have caused the engine to fall off the 34-year-old aircraft. The NTSB is still doing a 'delayering search' near the crash site and collecting debris from local business, Greenberg said. |
