According to the agency, the incident occurred on Saturday in the remote village of Dal in the Nduga region. Following heavy rains, the river overflowed its banks and swept away a group of people aged between eight and seventeen.
They were previously reported missing. On November 4, local rescuers discovered their bodies, confirming the deaths of 15 people, including 13 children. The search for eight more missing minors continues in a neighboring village.
