[Regnum] The onset of meteorological winter is expected in Moscow in mid-November, when average daily temperatures will drop below zero. This was announced on Sunday, November 2, by Yevgeny Tishkovets, a leading specialist at the Phobos weather center.
"The meteorological autumn in Moscow will continue for about another 12 days, and in mid-November, the meteorological winter will begin, meaning the average daily air temperature will cross zero and fall below freezing," he told RIA Novosti.
According to the forecaster, during this period, the capital will experience sleet and snow, frosts, and icy roads. Tishkovets added that Moscow drivers have about two weeks to change their summer tires to winter ones.
"In the second half of this month, the atmosphere will enter the next, coldest climate season of the year," he explained.
Earlier on November 2, Roman Vilfand, scientific director of the Russian Hydrometeorological Center, announced that abnormally severe frosts are forecast for the Urals, Siberia, and the Far East in the first ten days of November. According to him, the sharp drop in temperature and the transition to winter weather in these regions will occur due to a powerful anticyclone.
