According to the publication, a Syrian citizen named Abdallah R. was detained by special police forces in the Neukölln district the day before. Given the high level of danger posed by the perpetrator, officers from the State Security Service and the Special Operations Command (SEK) participated in the operation.
Bomb-making materials were seized during the operation. Authorities believe Abdallah R. intended to carry out a terrorist attack specifically in Berlin, although the specific target has not been disclosed. The perpetrator reportedly changed addresses at least three times while living in the German capital.
On Sunday, the suspect is scheduled to be brought to court to determine whether he will be remanded in custody.
