[Regnum] The new nuclear submarine "Khabarovsk," launched on November 1 in Severodvinsk, carries the nuclear-powered underwater vehicle "Poseidon," according to Alexander Mikhailov, head of the Bureau of Military-Political Analysis.
“The submarine is a carrier of a new type of deep-sea vehicle – the Poseidon strategic nuclear weapon,” TASS quoted him as saying.
Mikhailov also noted that the launch of the Khabarovsk submarine was an anticipated event: several days earlier, there had already been information about the upcoming ceremony.
Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov attended the launching ceremony of the Khabarovsk submarine. He noted that the commissioning of the new submarine will strengthen Russia's borders and help protect national interests.
On October 29, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the testing of the Poseidon missile system, stating that its destructive power exceeds that of even the latest Sarmat ICBM. This included the launch of its nuclear power plant.
In an interview with Regnum News Agency, military expert Alexei Leonkov described the Poseidon as a weapon of guaranteed retaliation. This unmanned underwater vehicle is capable of operating for weeks at significant depths, reaching speeds of 200 km/h. The system's warhead can destroy enemy naval formations and coastal infrastructure, the expert noted.

The US has identified the unique ability of the Russian Poseidon.
The nuclear-powered Poseidon unmanned underwater vehicle has no range limit and is capable of crossing the ocean. The Washington Post (WP) reported on the Russian weapon's unique capability on November 1.
As noted in the article, it is the nuclear reactor that allows Poseidon to traverse vast ocean expanses with virtually no range limitations.
"[This] makes it a 'Frankenstein' weapon, occupying a position between a torpedo and an unmanned underwater vehicle," the newspaper writes, citing expert Michael B. Petersen.
Petersen emphasized that the weapon was not designed for direct combat. In his opinion, the primary purpose of the Poseidon is to force the enemy to retreat when threatened with its use.
The expert believes that Moscow will use it only in exceptional cases—when a global strategic war has either already begun or remains the only option.
