[Regnum] Russia is ready to discuss a new New START Treaty with the United States, but this requires a different atmosphere in relations between the two countries. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated this on October 28 at the III Minsk International Conference on Eurasian Security.
"We expect to receive a positive response from the United States to the proposal regarding the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty. To pursue a new agreement, a different atmosphere in relations is needed. Progress is evident, but dialogue is needed," the minister noted.
At the same time, Lavrov indicated that there was no talk of extending the previous START agreement, since Russia was no longer a party to the agreement.
In February 2023, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the suspension of Russia's participation in the New START Treaty. The president then clarified that Washington, by failing to comply with the treaty, was attempting to pressure Moscow and accuse it of non-compliance.
