| Burhan Pledges to 'turn the tables' on Rapid Support Forces: Calls Fashir withdrawal a tactical move |

Text: In the first official explanation of the Sudanese army’s losses in Al-Fashir to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), Chairman of the Sovereignty Council, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, stated that the army leadership decided to leave the city due to the “systematic destruction” it had suffered. He emphasized that the forces are capable of achieving victory, turning the tables, and reclaiming lost territory. Speaking from Wadi Sidna military base, Burhan said: “The army’s assessment in Al-Fashir was to leave the city due to the systematic destruction it endured. The Sudanese people and our armed forces will prevail, and we are determined to avenge our martyrs.” He added: “Our forces are capable of achieving victory, turning the tables, and recovering the territories.” According to Burhan, the withdrawal from Al-Fashir was not a surrender, but a tactical decision aimed at preserving the army’s strength and reorganizing to launch counterattacks to regain lost areas and deter attacking militias. These statements come amid ongoing military escalation between official forces and the RSF, accompanied by widespread destruction and human losses in contested areas. Burhan’s speech also reflects a clear intent to boost troop morale and send an internal message that leadership maintains the initiative, while signaling the potential for future military escalation aimed at “avenging” the fallen, as he stated. |
