*Israel treated Yahya Sinwar’s brain cancer. Later, he was released in the Shalit deal. One cannot overstate the importance of certain individuals to the direction of history. No one could have replaced Isoroku Yamamoto in planning the Pearl Harbor Attack or Elon Musk for Tesla and SpaceX success. Sinwar was the man who made Ocftober 7th so deadly. Israel should have let him die. Actually, Israel should have shot him and all other convicted terrorists. But mercy overcomes the courts and politicians and 1,200 people are dead for their caring about the wrong people.
*Israeli companies have made billions of dollars by supplying Gaza with food, water, gasoline, heating oil, and electricity. Even when Hamas was actively whipping missiles at Israeli civilians, the companies bided their time and continued the lucrative supply business. The Israel Post used to send an armored car periodically to Gaza to exchange worn out Israeli bills with fresh, new ones.

Now, Israel may say, "Hey, wait a minute. Sure, the PA will have cops on the border so that the Egyptians don’t have to see us. But we have a big buffer. Anyone going in either direction must come through us as well." And today maybe that is true. But as the farce of "Hamas is disarming!" and "a new technocratic MIT-heavy government is convening!" is rammed down Jerusalem’s throat, Israel’s buffer will get smaller and smaller until the IDF is gone. Paleostinians want to kill Jews and wipe out Israel. Many say that out loud. "We’ll do another 100 October 7th attacks!" they bellow. And Israel and the West say that no, it’s just the outliers, they don’t represent the people. The leaders are light on protecting the people because they don’t see themselves or their families in any danger. Women soldiers manning the watchtowers warned over and over again that an attack was forming and had started. Their superiors ignored them or failed to move the information up the chain of command. A swift response at the beginning of the attack would have blunted much of the murder and mayhem. In many places it took hours before the first good guys showed up. The Israeli Air Force, the one that did so well over the skies of Iran, was AWOL the entire morning of October 7th. Why?
When an armistice was declared for World War I, a French general said that there would be an interlude and war would begin again in 20 years. Israel may have won the war in terms of getting hostages back, weakening Hamas, destroying much of Gaza, etc. But will Israel win peace? Will Israel win the next phase, meaning can Israeli farmers walk right up to the Gaza border wall and safely pick their potatoes? Can a mother put her children to sleep in Sderot and not have to plan how to get the kids into the "safe room" in less than a minute? If Israel lets the international community dictate the future of Gaza, then Israel is cooked. Israel must figure out how to protect its citizens and stand on its hind legs to not let any move be made that endangers Jews tomorrow or 10 years from tomorrow. When international forces are in Gaza, the IDF will not be able to act decisively in order to remove a threat.
Israel did not commit the October 7th pogrom, but she contributed to many of the conditions that led to its occurrence and brutal results. Is Israel going for Round 2 by letting Jew-hating PA coppers "patrol" the Rafah border? Will the latter help Hamas bring in weaponry under the nose of the trusting Israelis? Where does this all end up?
