[Regnum] Earth has been hit by the third magnetic storm of October. This was reported on October 18 by the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the Space Research Institute (IKI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Scientists have noted that the solar wind has strengthened, as the Earth enters a plasma flow from the coronal hole.
They added that two magnetic storms had already occurred in October: at the beginning of the month from October 1 to 3, and another one on October 12.
"The wait wasn't long. While I was writing the previous post, the third magnetic storm of October began," the laboratory's Telegram channel reports.
Scientists previously warned of the imminent onset of a magnetic storm due to intense solar flare activity. However, the Space Research Institute (IKI) noted that the flares pose no direct threat to Earth.
As reported on October 17, the Sun's coronal hole, which has noticeably expanded over the past month, could cause weak geomagnetic disturbances on Earth on October 18 and 19. Coronal holes are among the longest-lived structures on the Sun. Due to the star's 27-day rotation, such formations periodically return to the side facing Earth.
