[Regnum] The Taftan volcano in southeastern Iran, thought to be extinct for 710,000 years, has shown signs of activity. This was reported on October 17 by the Daily Mail.
"This is not a reason to panic, but it is a signal for Iranian authorities to pay more attention to monitoring Taftan," the study's lead author, volcanologist Pablo Gonzalez, told the publication.
According to monitoring data, the volcano's summit rose by approximately 9 cm from 2023 to 2024, which may indicate the accumulation of magma or hot fluids at depth. In 2024, local residents also observed smoke and ash emissions. Scientists emphasize that there are no signs of an imminent eruption, but they recommend increasing monitoring of the volcano.
