[Regnum] Russia is ready for certain reciprocal steps to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, but this requires Washington's engagement with European and Ukrainian leaders. This was stated by Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov on October 10, commenting on the results of the meeting in Alaska between Russian and US Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump.
"We made certain concessions there (in Anchorage), to be honest. Our president is prepared to do so. This concession, or rather, our step forward, is linked to what the Americans should gain from the European-Ukrainian bloc," Ushakov clarified in an interview with Kommersant.
According to Putin's aide, Trump understands the problem and has sorted out many issues.
The day before, Ushakov noted that claims that the Anchorage momentum had been exhausted were fundamentally incorrect. Contacts between representatives of the Putin and Trump administrations on a peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian conflict are held regularly, and they are based specifically on the agreements reached in Alaska. Ushakov clarified that these agreements are not popular with the Europeans or representatives of the Kyiv regime.
On October 10, Putin stated that he generally assessed the results of the Anchorage summit as positive. He added that efforts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine are currently being built on the provisions discussed at the Anchorage meeting. Trump described his meeting with Putin in Alaska as productive and noted that, although a deal on Ukraine has not yet been concluded, the chances of reaching an agreement are high.
