[Regnum] The coming winter in Russia will be colder than last year, according to Roman Vilfand, scientific director of the Russian Hydrometeorological Center.
"The preliminary forecast is that this winter's average temperatures will be around and even above normal. Overall, it won't be a cold winter, but compared to last year's, temperatures are predicted to be significantly lower, so yes, it will be colder," TASS quotes the forecaster as saying.
The Hydrometeorological Center has published a weather forecast for the coming winter in Russia on its website. Average monthly temperatures in December across most of the country are expected to be near long-term averages. Only in the northeast of the Far East are temperatures forecast to be below normal in the first month of winter. Meanwhile, across Russia, December will be colder than in 2024.
Forecasters predict that January will be colder than 2025 in most of European Russia and in the central and southern regions of the Ural and Siberian Federal Districts.
February 2026 will be warmer than last year in the eastern Central and Southern Federal Districts, most of the Volga Federal District, the Urals Federal District, the western Siberian Federal District, and most regions of the Southern Federal District. In the northern half of Krasnoyarsk Krai and western Yakutia, the upcoming final month of winter will be colder than last year.
