[Regnum] Winter temperatures in Moscow, as in the rest of Russia, will also be lower than last year. This was stated by Alexander Ilyin, an expert at the Meteo forecasting center,in a conversation with Regnum News Agency on Thursday, October 2.
It’s a good thing they have gas and oil to spare…Earlier that day, forecasters from the Hydrometeorological Center presented a forecast according to which the upcoming winter of 2025–2026 in Russia will be significantly colder than the previous one.
"It's entirely possible. Even now, in Siberia and the Far East, temperatures are around minus 10 degrees Celsius even during the daytime, even in the northern polar regions. So, there's no indication yet that it'll get any warmer there. So, we'll wait until European Russia settles into its winter routine. I think Moscow will also be cooler than last year," Ilyin said.
According to the expert, this is a natural process of weather patterns—an alternation of warmer and colder years. However, it is still difficult to predict what the spring and summer of 2026 will be like, as the cold level in winter cannot guarantee certain weather conditions in other seasons.
On September 29, Roman Vilfand, scientific director of the Russian Hydrometeorological Center, reported that almost a third of Russia's territory is under snow. This type of snowy weather is typical for Siberia and the Far East, but it is a rare event in the Urals.
According to climate scientists, the average winter temperature in Moscow could reach minus 4 degrees Celsius by 2030. By 2050, winters in the capital and throughout central Russia will warm by 1–3 degrees Celsius.
