[Regnum] The most powerful solar flare in three months has occurred, with a possible firestorm afterward. This was reported on September 28 on the Telegram channel of the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the Space Research Institute (IKI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
"An impulsive flare of class M6.4 was recorded at the eastern edge of the Sun around noon Moscow time today. The peak energy release occurred at 11:43 Moscow time. This event is the largest since June 19 of this year, more than three months. All activity surges observed since that date have been at a lower level," the statement reads.
It is also clarified that although large volumes of plasma were ejected into space, their speeds are initially insufficient to overcome the Sun's gravity. They will likely be unable to escape into interplanetary space and will, after some time, fall back onto the Sun as a fiery rain. Furthermore, the event is significantly offset from the Sun-Earth line, significantly reducing the associated risks.
On September 27, the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences reported that solar flare activity would increase significantly, with the potential for further growth. However, scientists noted that the geomagnetic environment on Earth remains calm and stable. Flare activity was also high in the previous 24 hours, but without any specific risks to the planet.
