| Puntland, U.S. Forces Pound IS-Somalia in Back-to-Back Assaults |

Transcript: For the second straight day, Puntland defense forces launched coordinated attacks on IS-Somalia strongholds in the mountainous Well Barakallah area along the Balade Stream. During the offensive, troops killed three foreign IS fighters from Tanzania, Sudan, and Kenya and dismantled fortified defensive positions painstakingly built by the militants. A day later, U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) unleashed heavy airstrikes on additional IS-Somalia hideouts in northern Ceelka Barakallah. The strikes reportedly killed up to six foreign fighters sheltering in the targeted positions. The back-to-back operations underscore a tightening joint campaign to dismantle IS-Somalia’s foothold in the rugged Cal Miskaad mountains of Puntland. |
