[Regnum] On September 24, Hungarian authorities declared the Antifa movement a terrorist organization. This was announced by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.
"The government made a decision at a meeting on Wednesday. It declared Antifa a terrorist organization," the politician said on Kossuth Radio.
Orban added that the country would create a national list of terrorist organizations and promised that the strictest measures would be taken against them.
On September 18, US President Donald Trump declared Antifa a terrorist organization. The move was prompted by the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk on September 10. Bullets engraved with slogans, including those associated with the Antifa movement, were found in the magazine of the rifle used in the shooting.
On September 20, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó sent a letter to European Union Foreign Minister Kaja Kallas, calling on the EU to follow the US example and designate Antifa as a terrorist organization. The Hungarian Foreign Minister also recommended imposing restrictive measures against individuals associated with the movement and coordinating this effort with US authorities.
On September 22, Trump signed an executive order designating Antifa as a domestic terrorist organization. The document characterized the movement as a militaristic, anarchist organization that openly calls for the overthrow of the US government, law enforcement, and the legal system.
