[KavkazUzel] A Georgian resident who fought in Syria on the side of the Islamic State* and promoted its activities was sentenced to 13 years in prison.
As the "Caucasian Knot" reported, Tsiskara Tokhosashvili, a native of the Pankisi Gorge and known as Emir Isa, was found guilty of involvement with the "Islamic State" and sentenced to 12 years in prison.
The Tbilisi City Court sentenced a Georgian citizen who was a member of the Islamic State to 13 years in prison, Novosti-Gruzia reported on September 23, citing the prosecutor's office.
According to investigators, in 2014, the defendant traveled to Syria, where he joined the ranks of the Islamic State*. He actively participated in combat operations on the group's side, promoted its activities, and called for others to join. He was charged in absentia under Article 328 of the Georgian Criminal Code (membership in a foreign terrorist organization and assistance to terrorist activity), and the sentence was also handed down in absentia.
