| HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – Abjar Daoud, spokesperson for the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), told North Press on Tuesday that Islamic State (ISIS) cells carried out an attack on a U.S.-led Global Coalition convoy in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria. “The attack carried out by ISIS cells on a routine patrol of Coalition forces and our forces was a deliberate assault,” Daoud said. The incident occurred on Sep. 20, when two gunmen targeted a U.S. military convoy conducting a joint patrol with SDF forces in the same area. “In response, Coalition and our forces returned fire deterring the cell and killing those responsible,” Abjar added. In the absence of effective oversight, gunfire has become a routine feature of daily life—used not only for self-defense but also to celebrate births, weddings, and exam results, or to settle minor disputes. In Abu Kamal’s streets, the rumble of motorcycles mingles with the crack of gunfire. Stray bullets no longer surprise residents, who say they now fear celebrations as much as clashes. “Our lives have become unbearable,” said Abu Ahmad, a local resident. “We cannot let our children play outside for fear of stray bullets. Just last week, a wedding on our street turned into a funeral.” More at the link |
