[Regnum] Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the birth of Empress Catherine II in 2029. The corresponding document was published on September 17 on the website for the official publication of legal acts.
"Considering the great significance of Catherine II's reforms for Russian history and in connection with the 300th anniversary of her birth, which will be celebrated in 2029, I hereby decide to accept the proposal of the Government of the Russian Federation to celebrate the 300th anniversary of Catherine II's birth in 2029," the document states.
The head of state instructed the government to create and approve the composition of the organizing committee within six months, as well as a plan for the main events to prepare for and hold the holiday.
Regional authorities and local governments were advised to actively participate in organizing and holding celebrations.
Empress Catherine II ascended the throne in 1762 and reigned for over 30 years. Her reign is called the "golden age" of the Russian Empire, when the country significantly expanded its territory, strengthened its influence in Europe, and laid the foundations for cultural flourishing.
In June, Putin instructed the administration and government to draft a decree establishing the Day of Languages ​​of the Peoples of Russia. He also instructed them to submit proposals for organizing and holding a nationwide song poetry competition.
