[Regnum] The Northern Fleet, as part of the Zapad-2025 strategic exercises, launched a strike using hypersonic weapons against a simulated enemy in the Barents Sea. This was reported on September 14 by the press service of the Russian Defense Ministry.
“The crew of the frigate Admiral Golovko carried out a practical firing of the hypersonic missile Zircon at a sea target,” the department said in a statement.
The area where the missile launch took place was closed in advance to civilian shipping and aviation flights.
The target designation for the target position to the command post of the group of heterogeneous strike forces was given by a long-range anti-submarine aircraft of the Northern Fleet's mixed aviation corps Tu-142. The target was destroyed by a direct hit, which was confirmed by objective control data.
The strategic exercises of the Armed Forces of Russia and Belarus "Zapad-2025" began on September 12. During the maneuvers, the participants will work on issues of managing troop groups when localizing aggression against the Union State, options for joint actions to neutralize threats and stabilize the situation on the borders.
