[Regnum] A student at the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia (RUDN) was sentenced to eight years in prison for financing the Islamic State (a terrorist organization banned in Russia). This was reported by TASS, citing one of the participants in the trial.
"He was sentenced to eight years of imprisonment, the first three years of which will be in prison, and the remaining term will be in a maximum security penal colony. The defendant fully admitted his guilt and repented of his actions," the news agency quotes the source as saying.
The publication says that the prosecutor asked for the student to be sentenced to nine years in prison. However, the court sentenced him to one year less.
According to the news agency, the student committed the crime at the age of 22. He transferred 12 thousand rubles to the account of another defendant, whose criminal case was separated into a separate proceeding.
