[Regnum] During the joint Russian-Belarusian strategic exercise "Zapad-2025", the Northern Fleet practiced a battle in the waters of the Northern Sea Route using missiles against a landing detachment of a simulated enemy. This was reported on September 13 by the press service of the Russian Defense Ministry.
“As part of the joint strategic exercise Zapad-2025, ships of the Arctic expeditionary group of the Northern Fleet worked out a number of tasks to counter the landing detachment of a simulated enemy by carrying out missile and artillery fire in the waters of the Northern Sea Route,” the defense department’s publication says.
After receiving the task of destroying the "enemy" naval group, a Ka-27 helicopter was lifted off board the large anti-submarine ship "Severomorsk". It conducted aerial reconnaissance, specified the coordinates of the simulated enemy landing party and transmitted target designation to the ship.
The Severomorsk sailors practiced firing at a group sea target, using two guided cruise missile-torpedoes in computer simulation mode. The crew of the Severomorsk large anti-submarine ship used AK-100 and AK-630 artillery mounts, as well as small arms to hit targets simulating enemy unmanned boats.
The strategic exercises of the Armed Forces of Russia and Belarus "Zapad-2025" began on September 12. During the maneuvers, the participants will work on issues of managing troop groups when localizing aggression against the Union State, options for joint actions to neutralize threats and stabilize the situation on the borders.
Earlier that day, the headquarters of the Russian and Belarusian Armed Forces began planning joint actions to destroy sabotage and reconnaissance groups as part of the exercises. Also, 120-mm mortar crews eliminated the firing positions of the simulated enemy.
