"I would like to recall the words of our president. Russia has never threatened anyone. It does not threaten the countries of Europe either. It was not Russia that moved towards Europe with its military infrastructure. It was Europe, being part of NATO, which is an instrument of confrontation, not peace and stability, that always moved towards our borders," the Kremlin spokesman noted.
Peskov also clarified that the exercises always attract increased attention from neighboring countries, but under normal conditions of constructive, peaceful and friendly coexistence, representatives of neighboring countries always have the opportunity to observe these exercises.
"This was the practice. Now, when Western Europe takes a hostile position towards us, all this results in emotional overload for these countries," he added.
On September 12, the joint strategic exercises of the Armed Forces of Russia and Belarus "Zapad-2025" began. During the maneuvers, the participants will work on issues of managing inter-service, regional and coalition groups of troops when localizing aggression against the Union State, various options for joint actions to neutralize threats and stabilize the situation on its borders.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said Warsaw regarded the joint Russian-Belarusian exercises "West-2025" as training for an "attack" on Poland, promising to take special measures if the alleged provocations from the Belarusian side were repeated. Soon, Polish Interior Minister Marcin Kerwiński also said that the Polish-Belarusian border would be closed for an indefinite period.
At the same time, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has repeatedly emphasized that these exercises are defensive in nature.
