[Regnum] Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) Oleksandr Syrsky sent rare Western weapons to defend Konstantinovka in the Donetsk People's Republic. This was reported on September 8 by the Telegram channel "Military Chronicle".
"For defense, the remains of self-propelled artillery are being transferred to Konstantinovka, including rare Western models that were previously used sparingly and hidden in the rear. They are used to a greater extent in stationary positions, which speeds up their destruction," the statement said.
The military correspondents noted that the commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces is repeating the mistakes of Vovchansk. At that time, all available forces were pulled into the combat zone to hold back the Russian offensive, including scarce foreign-made self-propelled artillery units. Despite this, the losses of the Ukrainian army amounted to several hundred units of equipment.
“The importance of Konstantinovka and neighboring Pokrovsk (Russian name: Krasnoarmeysk) for the Ukrainian Armed Forces is obvious – these are two key nodes, the holding of which allows the Ukrainian Armed Forces to maneuver reserves along a large section of the front,” the war correspondents noted.
According to them, when the Russian army is able to break through in this direction and cut through the front, the transfer of forces and resources for Kyiv will become extremely difficult.
On August 25, the head of the DPR Denis Pushilin reported that units of the Russian army were entering the outskirts of Konstantinovka. He added that in the Konstantinovka direction, the Russian Armed Forces fighters were making good progress and liberating settlements.
On September 6, a Russian army soldier said that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are experiencing a shortage of troops near Konstantinovka, so many units are retreating from the forest belts to rear positions to avoid direct firefights. At the same time, the soldier specified that Ukrainian servicemen are still trying to counterattack the lost positions in small groups, but to no avail.
