IDF declares area around military chief’s home a closed zone amid anti-war protests

But neither the IDF nor the police even think of banning protests at the Prime Minister’s residence, Bibi’s personal home, or those of his ministers. And then the generals pronounce upon how all Bibi’s decisions are wrong, which is decidedly unhelpful both domestically and abroad.

In an unusual move, the IDF declared the area around Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir’s house a “closed military zone,” following anti-war protests there, according to a social media post on Sunday.

The order, according to a copy circulating online, was signed on Friday by Maj. Gen. Shai Klepper, chief of the Home Front Command. Rotem Sivan, the leader of a protest group representing mothers of combat soldiers, shared the document on Sunday on social media.

poured buckets of red paint onto a wall and on the street outside Zamir’s home in Ramot HaShavim, a town adjacent to Hod Hasharon.

The left-wing protesters gathered that day to demand that Zamir refuse to carry out any plans to occupy the Gaza Strip as the government proceeds with an operation to take over Gaza City.

The military said that “the decision to declare the area a closed military zone was made based on professional and security considerations.”

It is unclear why the military resorted to an order signed by a major general, instead of the police outlawing such protests.

Before the operation to conquer Gaza City was approved, Zamir was widely said

to object to government plans to take over the entire Strip, saying the policy would endanger the lives of soldiers as well as the remaining hostages held by Hamas. This drew ire from Defense Minister Israel Katz and others in the government.

It is my unsolicited opinion that all the vocal generals should be publicly horsewhipped to help them understand that they are subordinate to the politicians in government and their job is to give their best advice privately. Ditto for Mossad, especially that idiot below. Remarkably aligned, all the vocal ones.

But Zamir reportedly said in a recent meeting with hostage families that “the operation will be conducted by me, with responsibility toward the troops and the hostages,” according to Channel 12.

“I believe in the operational plan. The people of Israel should know that I state, and will continue to state, my professional opinion. The hostages are on my mind. I am acting in the most responsible way possible,” Zamir reportedly said.

Since the operation received a green light, families of hostages and their supporters have intensified their campaign urging the government to strike a ceasefire deal to release the captives, holding two separate nationwide days of protest in addition to weekly Saturday night rallies.

Wading into politics, former Mossad chief Cohen says Netanyahu should step aside

[IsraelTimes] Former Mossad chief Yossi Cohen says in an interview with Channel 12 that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu should no longer serve as premier, as Israel needs changes that he cannot deliver.

“At this time, right now, change is required — to move away from divisive factionalism and to talk about unity. [Netanyahu] can’t do that… He can’t unify what needs to be unified right now,” Cohen tells the Hebrew network in a lengthy interview.

While acknowledging that “Netanyahu has done a great deal… for the good of Israel,” Cohen says the country “at this moment requires other leadership.”

Cohen, formerly a close Netanyahu confidant, gives the interview while promoting his new autobiography, a week after he declared that he should be Israel’s next prime minister, insisting the public is pushing for “real change” in leadership, and that “for real change to happen, I need to be prime minister.”

Tonight, however, Cohen stresses that he remains undecided about his political future and does not intend to run in the next elections, currently scheduled for 2026.

“I’ve not entered politics, so I’m not directly challenging any politician,” he says.

Cohen has long been linked to Netanyahu, who appointed him Mossad chief after his tenure as national security adviser and reportedly considered him a potential successor, along with Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer.

If Cohen does enter politics, he says his natural home would be the Likud party — but in what he calls a “new iteration,” with a “massive” turnover in its ranks. “The new Likud,” he says of the party that is seen as largely in Netanyahu’s thrall.

Pressed about possible coalition partners, Cohen says he hasn’t yet considered the matter, but that he “apparently would not” sit in a government with far-right politicians Bezalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben Gvir, both of whom are senior members of Netanyahu’s coalition.

Asked which partner he would be most resistant to, he responds, “probably Ben Gvir.”

“Ben Gvir is a red line for me. I couldn’t accept his diplomatic stance,” he says about the national security minister, a former disciple of outlawed extremist rabbi and politician Meir Kahane.

On ultra-Orthodox draft exemptions, Cohen is equally firm: “Haredim — I won’t accept [their demands on non-IDF service], even if that means I won’t be prime minister. Not today, not in the future. I would not put together a government that does not require that all carry the burden [of service] equally.”
