| Chicago suffers Labor Day weekend bloodbath [54]... as woke leaders block Trump plan to deploy National Guard |

| [Daily Mail, where America gets its news] At least 54 people were shot in Chicago over Labor Day weekend, but the city's leaders remain adamant against President Trump deploying the National Guard. Mayor Brandon Johnson, who's been extremely vocal against Trump, told a crowd of anti-MAGA protestors Monday that he will not allow the president to bring 'militarized force' into his city. 'No federal troops in the city of Chicago! No militarized force in the city of Chicago!,' Johnson, 49, shouted on stage at the 'Workers Over Billionaires' protest in the Windy City. The Democrat's remarks came after the shootings left at least seven dead and 37 others injured. A majority of the instances resulted in no one being taken into custody, police said, per Fox News. In recent days, Johnson and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker have fought against Trump's threats to send in National Guard troops and federal agents to Chicago to crackdown on soaring crime and immigration issues. Trump's warning comes as his administration vows to deliver a federal presence in major Democratic-run cities, US officials told the Associated Press. On Saturday, Johnson told local officials to resist Trump's planned immigration crackdown, signing an executive order outlining guidelines for the city's agencies and police department to follow. The order said law enforcement will not 'collaborate with federal agents on joint law enforcement patrols, arrest operations, or other law enforcement duties, including civil immigration enforcement.' He further directed local officials to 'pursue all available legal and legislative avenues to resist coordinated efforts from the federal government.' 'We may see militarized immigration enforcement. We may also see National Guard troops. We may even see active duty military and armed vehicles in our streets,' Johnson said before signing the order. 'We have not called for this. Our people have not asked for this, but nevertheless, we find ourselves having to respond to this.' Johnson's executive order also 'urges' local law enforcement, 'to refrain from wearing masks, to wear and use body cameras and to identify themselves to members of the public with names and badge numbers.' Chicago is home to a large immigrant population, and both the city and the state of Illinois have some of the country’s strongest rules against cooperating with federal government immigration enforcement efforts. That has often put the city and the state at odds with Trump’s administration as it tries to carry out his mass deportation agenda. The Trump administration asked the military this week for use of the Naval Station Great Lakes, north of Chicago, to support immigration enforcement. The White House-ordered operation in Chicago, the country’s third-largest city, is expected to last about 30 days and could start as early as September 5, a Department of Homeland Security official told The Associated Press on Friday. |
