[Regnum] Active region 4197 on the Sun, which has accumulated a large amount of energy, has turned towards the Earth. This was reported on August 30 by the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the Space Research Institute (IKI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
“Active region 4197, whose rapid growth and exceptional size are currently attracting the attention of all global space weather centers, has reached the central solar meridian tonight, that is, exactly on the Sun-Earth line, and in the next two days will pose the greatest danger to the planet in its entire existence,” the laboratory’s Telegram channel said.
The region has already been assigned the maximum Beta-Gamma-Delta category due to its huge energy reserves, but no significant flares have been recorded there so far. Experts expect solar flares of the highest X rating in the next few days, which will be the strongest in recent months.
Solar flares are classified by the level of X-ray radiation, they are divided into several categories: X - the most powerful, M - average, C - weak, and A and B - almost imperceptible. When moving to the next letter, the power increases by 10 times.
On August 19, scientists reported that a magnetic storm had begun on Earth due to a coronal hole in the Sun. Specialists noted that the geomagnetic field could be unstable, and the radiation situation could be undisturbed. Also, scientists indicated that radio communications could deteriorate within 24 hours.
