[Regnum] An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.6 was recorded off the eastern coast of Kamchatka. This was reported on Thursday, August 21, by the Kamchatka branch of the Federal Research Center of the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
“UTC time: August 21, 03:44:48 (15:44 Kamchatka time, 06:44 Moscow time. — Ed.). Coordinates: 51.4469 north latitude, 160.1343 east longitude. Magnitude: 5.6,” the branch’s Telegram channel says.
The epicenter of the earthquake was located 208 km from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky in the Pacific Ocean, the source of the tremors was located at a depth of 50.4 km.
Earlier, on August 21, an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.5 occurred in the Pacific Ocean near the Southern Kuril Islands. The tremor of 2-3 points could have been felt by residents of the islands of Kunashir and Shikotan, but no tsunami threat was announced.
