What changes?
rantburg.com is moving to a new server at 12:00 EDT, which should be much more stable and on a better network.
Most issues causing the server/service to go down will be much fewer and of far less duration.
rantburg.com will reside on a much more advanced version of the php scripting language, as well as a much more advanced version of postgresql.
What to expect:
At 12:00 EDT the original server (rantburg.com) will redirect to newrantburg.1dogstar.net. Any posts, or comments on either the old server (rantburg.com) or the new one (newrantburg.1dogstar.net) will be overwritten when the final database is installed.
Also at 12:00 EDT, Fred will point the rantburg.com name to the new server. It will take between 30 minutes, and to up to 72 hours for the change to go into effect. During this time, service under the rantburg.com name will be spotty at best, as the name is updated throughout the domain name system.
During this time, newrantburg.1dogstar.net will be available to be used the same as the rantburg.com name.
At 12:15 EDT, newrantburg.1dogstar.net will shut down for approximately 15 minutes as the final database is moved into place. Any posts, comments, etc made between 12:00 EDT and 12:30 EDT at either the old server, or the new server will be overwritten. Once the server is back live, you can continue your normal activity.
