Arithmetic is one of the differences between the People of Things and the People of Words. People of Things believe in Arithmetic. The electrician knows that if the voltage at the outlet is 0.0, the light will not come on, no matter how much virtue he shines onto the world or what it says on a piece of paper. Now what are they going to use to buy votes? "Jobs. We're gonna need a Community Outreach Department, a Food Desert Commission, some kind of Homeless grift, plus others we'll think of on the way. Each of them will need a Director, Assistant Director, secretaries, outreach workers, plus miscellaneous staff as needed. And everyone is going to need some walking-around money." |
