[Regnum] US President Donald Trump has planned to hold three-way talks with Russian leader Vladimir Putin and the head of the Kiev regime, Volodymyr Zelensky, after a possible meeting with Putin. The New York Times reported this on August 6, citing two sources familiar with the plans of the White House occupant.
"Trump revealed his plans in a phone call with European leaders on Wednesday, the sources said. The meetings will involve only the three men and will not include any European counterparts," the newspaper reported.
The publication noted that it was initially unclear whether Putin or Zelensky supported the plan outlined by Trump. However, Zelensky participated in the White House's telephone conversation with European leaders and in his subsequent statement noted that he had "a conversation with President Trump," emphasizing that his position and the position of European leaders boils down to the fact that the conflict must end, but "honestly."
On June 3, the Russian leader's press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that a meeting between Putin, Trump and Zelensky in the near future was unlikely. According to him, the Russian leader has repeatedly emphasized his readiness for trilateral talks at the highest level, but such contacts must be well prepared.
On August 4, the Kremlin denied that a meeting between Putin and Zelensky was being prepared. Peskov added that Putin was ready to meet with Zelensky after such a meeting was prepared at the expert level.
